The second largest diamond ever has just been discovered in Botswana

A spectacular diamond has been mined in Botswana (Africa), known to be the second largest diamond in the world! Weighing 1,111 carats (the size of a tennis ball), this colorless stone would be the largest ever discovered over last 100 years.

No need to say that this kind of extroradinary diamonds are exceedingly rare to find.

"As long as the diamond (discovered in Botswana) has not been fully analyzed, it is impossible to determine its value, said Kieron Hodgson, a mining expert. But what is certain is that it has the potential to be an extremely expensive diamond (...). Its value depends on the possible inclusions of its reaction when it is cut, its optimum shape and its final color. "

One can recall that the diamond is a transparent mineral, composed of carbon, which is the hardest of all minerals: 10 on the scale of Moshs (10) It has the simplestchemical composition compared to other precious stones which are all compounds.

The value of diamonds is based on rarety. So, the more the diamond is big , the most expensive it will be!

The criteria needed to calculate the price of a diamond are the "4 C" (color, clarity, carat and cut) as well as the type of gemological certificate accompanying it. The price of a round-brilliant diamond is very much higher than the price of a diamond of the same weight and same quality (color and clarity) but shapes of different sizes (princess, pear, oval, etc ...).

Botswana is the second largest diamond producer in the world after Russia.

The largest diamond in the world is and remains the Cullinan weighing a total of 3106 carats, which was found in South Africa in 1905. It has been divided into several huge stones, whose main one, adorn the scepter of his Britannic Majesty and the imperial crown jewels which are part of the British Crown preciously kept in the Tower of London.
