The most expensive diamond ever sold at Auction

Last evening at Sothebys in Geneva, we have witnessed a new world record. The most expensive diamond ever sold in the world ! This is the "Pink Star", a pink diamond of 59.60 carats, "fancy vivid pink" with the maximum purity "internally flawless".

In the classification of the color intensity of pink diamonds, "fancy vivid pink" is the highest degree. Pink is a rare color in diamonds, and pure pink diamonds are even rarer. Sold 61,650,000 euros, or more than one million per carat, this is an absolute record for a diamond sold at auction.

The buyer is Isaac Wolf, a lapidary of New York. The new owner of this exceptional stone, renamed it "Pink Dream", said Sotheby's after the sale. This diamond was discovered in Africa in 1999. The rough diamond weighed 132.5 carats. It took two years to the company Steinmetz Diamonds to carve and present it to Monaco in 2003. It has already been sold for the first time at a private sale, as the Steinmetz Pink, but the amount of the transaction was not known.
